About Cookies

Cookies are small text files stored by your browser when you visit a website. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others tell us how the site is being used, and those only run if you agree to them.

Your Choice, and What It Controls

When you first arrive, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Nothing analytical runs until you choose. Until you accept, analytics, personalisation and advertising storage are all switched off, and the tools described below are not loaded.

If you decline, or if you close the banner without choosing, the site keeps working normally. You simply are not measured.

We remember your choice for 12 months so we do not ask on every page. To change it, clear this site's cookies and site data in your browser: that removes the stored choice and the banner appears again.

What We Actually Use

Strictly necessary

These keep the site secure and remember your cookie choice. They cannot be switched off, because without them the site cannot function or cannot honour your preference. They are not used to track you.

Analytics, only if you accept

• Google Analytics, loaded through Google Tag Manager, counts visits and tells us which pages people land on, which links brought them to us and roughly which country they are in.
• Site search terms. Our search runs inside your browser, so what you search for never appears in a web address. We send the search term and the number of results to Google Analytics on purpose, because a search that returns nothing tells us the site is missing something.
• Microsoft Clarity records your visit so we can replay it and see where our pages confuse people. It captures pointer movement, clicks and taps, scrolling and the path you took through the site. Anything you type into a form field or select from a drop-down is masked on your own device before the recording is sent, so we never receive it. Recordings are kept for 30 days; a small sample is kept up to 13 months. This is set out in full in our Privacy Policy.

What We Do Not Do

We do not use advertising cookies, we do not build advertising profiles, and we do not show you advertising on other companies' websites based on what you looked at here. We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Other Ways to Control Cookies

Beyond the banner, your browser lets you block or delete cookies, refuse third-party cookies, or send a "Do Not Track" signal. Google also publishes a browser add-on that opts you out of Google Analytics on every site, at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may stop parts of the site working.

Your cookie choice is stored per browser and per device, so you will need to make it again on a different computer or phone.
