Today, we’re offering a sneak peek at some of h+h americas sessions that still have openings available for attendees. Our classes, workshops, and sessions are quickly filling up, so we recommend registering for anything you might be interested in as soon as possible.

Spinning 101

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 11:30 am – 12:45 pm

Join Alanna Wilcox in a lecture and demonstration session that will walk participants through the basics of spinning yarn. Alanna will cover the special supplies and equipment hand spinners utilize as well as how to identify the right vendors, suppliers, and sources to furnish their shop with spinning resources. Attendees will also learn about gauging customer interest in hand spinning, marketing to spinners in your area, providing spinning lessons to customers, and how to expand and grow your spinning knowledge to become a resource for your customers.

Weaving 101

Friday, June 24, 2022 – 11:30 am – 12:45 pm

Join Alanna Wilcox in a lecture and demonstration session that will walk participants through the basics of weaving. Expanding Into Garment Sewing

Friday, June 24, 2022 – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Join Rae Cumbie, author of Fit for Art Patterns, as she leads retailers in a discussion around garment sewing and how the craft ties into the current trends of sustainability and personal fit and style. Rae will discuss expanding your store into the garment sewing market, providing insights about choosing patterns, fabrics, and tools and how to create interactive opportunities that draw customers into creating their own garments with the help of your store.

Workshops

What Your Yarn Forgot to Tell You 

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Kim McBrien Evans of Indigodragofly Studio leads participants in this informative workshop that unravels the secrets behind combining colors when creating hand dyed yarn using color theory, an understanding of the way colors play together once they are knit and crocheted, and how to build color combinations that express your vision. Participants will receive small yarn samples to take home as reference pieces as well as resources for different types of dye patterns.

Spinning 101 Extension 

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

Learn how to spin yarn by hand using a drop spindle and wool fiber with workshop leader Alanna Wilcox. This workshop extension explores the basic mechanics of hand spinning yarn and participants will leave with their own drop spindle and fiber to continue spinning yarn at home.

Weaving 101 Extension 

Friday, June 24, 2022 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

In this extension to Weaving 101, Alanna Wilcox leads in a hands-on enrichment workshop that teaches attendees how to weave a 4” square swatch using a pin loom. Participants will receive a Schact Zoom loom kit and different yarn samples to create swatches. This workshop explores the basic concepts of weaving. At the end, participants will leave with their own Schact Zoom loom and yarns to continue weaving at home.

Why Inclusive Sizing Matters 

Friday, June 24, 2022 – 9:45 am – 11:15 am

Indigodragonfly Studio’s Kim McBrien Evans leads an informative session aimed at helping designers build a size-inclusive range in their pattern designs. Designers will learn helpful resources for sizing data, how to thoughtfully talk about sizing, how to build a body size chart, how to design for different body types, and inclusivity in marketing.

Sessions for Everyone

How to Cut a Quilt Pattern with Cricut 

Thursday, June 23, 2022 – 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm

Sandra Chandler of Sandra Lee Designs leads an instructional session around using the Cricut Maker to cut quilt squares in a fraction of the time it takes to do it by hand.  Attendees will learn how to use the Cricut Maker to cut even pieces as well as the Cricut Rotary Blade to cut preformed shapes. She’ll also teach attendees how to cut multiple layers at once and methods for reducing fabric waste.

Showtime! Show Prep 101 

Friday, June 24, 2022 – 9:45 am – 11:15 am

YarnCon co-founder Natalie Uribe Watson leads an informative session detailing her experience as both a show organizer and a vendor at craft shows. Attendees will learn about preparing to showcase and sell their wares at craft shows, from registration to booth set up and tear down.
